Basics
Name: Thorn
Age: 4 years, 4 months
Gender: Male
Physical
Description:
[click for full image]
Length: 6’7” / 77” nose to tail tip
Height: 3’6” / 42” at shoulders
Weight: 160 lbs
One Strength: High endurance, be it running long distance or pain resistance. His thick fur is useful in defense from teeth and claws. His enormous size makes him almost like a brick wall.
One Weakness: While his size can be useful, it can easily be used against him--he cannot move fast when off-balance. He stands his ground but usually will not fight back when attacked, making him somewhat easily dominated. Though it is not necessarily a physical ailment, he absolutely hates hurting things smaller than him [which, incidentally, is a lot of things] and is, consequently, virtually useless in battle or small game hunts. His thick, dark fur can overheat him in the summer if he is exposed to the sun for an extended period of time. The collar and chain still around his neck can get caught on things or used against him in battle, hindering his movement and/or breathing.
Heritage
Breed: Grey
Family:
Mother - Elm
Father - Homicide
Brothers - None
Sisters - None
Internal
Personality: His past has made Thorn somewhat distrustful of others. He tends to be secretive and quiet, and has a nasty habit of keeping important things to himself. While his size and strength could be extremely useful in physical conflict, he despises hurting things smaller than him and tries to avoid confrontation. Beneath his rough and icy exterior, there is a true heart hardened only slightly by time. Though it takes time and effort to get under his skin, Thorn would do anything for those he trusts and loves. Secretly, he hates being alone.
Fears: Betrayal, abandonment, being alone, death, fast-moving deep water, being caged or restrained, humans.
Hopes: To find a permanent home, with other wolves he can trust and care about--maybe even have pups of his own.
Life
Bio: In short, and yes, compared to the original manuscript, this is short--Thorn was the only surviving pup of his litter due to his mother’s health, or lack thereof. From his birth, he relied on others’ attention and safety. He was shaken to the core when one of the pack led a group of two-legged, furless monsters into their territory. Some of the pack were killed and some, Thorn among, were taken away.
Days after the attack, Thorn and another pup from his pack were forced inside a ring and prodded by sticks until they grew agitated enough to take their fear and anger out on each other. Soon enough, at almost one year old, Thorn had made his first kill, and it was another wolf--one that he had grown up with, no less.
Over time, Thorn came to know the creatures and their evil ways. The two-leggeds, called humans, kept a plethora of strange creatures locked up. There were other wolves, dogs, more canines, wild cats, even wolverines and some bears in the dark, closed space he slept at night. Day by day, one by one, he and other animals were pitted against each other. Thorn became an efficient killer over a span of two and a half years, gaining few physical ailments thanks to his large size, defense and strength, and thick, protective fur. Both of his ears were torn, some patches of his fur were ripped out, and the cuts he did get scars from were only on areas with little fur, or were soon covered by fur. He had grown used to this horrible lifestyle and felt little remorse for the slaughter he executed at the will of the humans. However, the last fight he was thrown into was against a bear. The great beast and the wolf fought viciously at first, until the bear ceased attacking completely. It told Thorn that it was sick of harming and killing creatures smaller than and defenseless against it. Taking advantage of its sudden pacifism, Thorn proceeded to kill the bear. But that night, the wolf lay awake, unable to forget the mighty beast’s soft words. He reassessed his life then, and in the night he broke the chain that kept him pinned in one spot and escaped from the horrible place he had grown to call home.
From there he wandered into the wilderness, hopefully far enough from humans that they would never find him again. Always keeping the bear’s final words in his mind and heart, Thorn killed only what he needed to survive. The big game, like the occasional deer, he killed proved to be more than he himself could eat before going bad, and therefore attracted scavengers. One particular raven ended up following him wherever he went. Eventually he would leave enough meat for her after each kill, no matter how little there was. In exchange for the food he provided her, she began to serve as his eyes above the trees. She is the one who saw the island of Lapushka far out on the water and led Thorn to its safe haven. Little did they know of the terrible sickness that had recently ravaged it.
Pack: None yet. Wandering Lune lands.
